A Study on Medical-Professionals’ Perceptions for the Growth of Korea’s Medical Tourism

The purpose of this study was to provide implications for necessity and importance of considering medical-professionals ’ views about the growth of Korea ’s medical tourism to gain competitive power on the world market. To accomplish the objective, data were collected from medical-professionals(e.g., MD, Nurse) who work in a hospital from July 15 to August 22, 2013. The results showed that the economic effects expected from medical tourism are positively related to beliefs in competitive power of Korea ’s medical tourism on the world market, as well as support for further development of the medical tourism. That is, the more economic effects expected from the medical tourism has, the higher medical professionals ’ beliefs in competitive power of and their support for further development of Korea ’s medical tourism. The results also revealed that the beliefs in the medical tourism ’s completive power are significantly influenced on the level of medical-professionals’ support for further development. The findings suggested that governments would more consider the viewpoint of the medical-professionals to establish a medical tourism system as their positive supports and perception of the medical tourism are one of important factors to make the business in a success.
