Lyndon B. Johnson had propelled bridge-building to eastern european satellite states. Nominally the aim was to reduce its political and economic dependence on Soviet through increasing east-west trade, but actually the real aim was to induce relax tension through maintaining status quo. Policy makers of Unite States tried to realize peaceful coexistence and east-west trade within the framework of detente, and bridge-building policy could be possible through maintaining status quo. this status quo premised the Bipolar system that based on U.S. and Soviet. We can see FRG's ostpolitik and eastern trade in this international situation and context. Because, FRG's diplomacy was subordinated to U.S. Gerhard Schröder tried to change ostpolitik propelling policy of movement(Politik der Bewegung). He increased eastern trade and discarded Hallstein-doctrine actually through setting up ambassadorial relations with Roumania and Bulgaria. This can be seen FRG jumped on the bandwagon like America's detente policy and bridge-building policy. FRG faced international situation change like detente and could not but accept this situation. On account of businessmen's needs and diversification of economic market, FRG began to strengthen eastern trade. In this study, the author analyzes the character of bridge-bulding and the interrelationship between bridge-building and FRG's ostpolitik in 1960' s.
