Purpose: The purpose of this study was to explore the perception of hospital workers on patient safety culture and influencing variables in one of the metropolitan cities in Yeongnam Area. Method: Subjects included were 240 hospital workers assigned in two tertiary hospitals and 270 hospital workers assigned in three secondary hospitals in the city. Data were collected during the period of August 14, 2009 to September 4, 2009. Data analysis were done using SPSS/Win 17.0 program by performing Frequency analysis, t- test, ANOVA, and Stepwise multiple regression. Results: Total mean score of perception of hospital workers on patient safety culture was 3.28, medium level. In reference to age, type of occupation, position, working hours per week, direct contact with the patient, their experiences, frequency of patient safety education, and patient safety campaign experience, the study found significant differences in total mean score of the perception of patient safety culture. Patient safety campaign experience, frequency of patient safety education and direct contact with patient were the significant predictors for the perception of patient safety culture and they explained 12.1% of total mean score of the perception. Conclusion: Campaign and continuous education for patient's safety could be effective strategies to improve hospital workers' perception and establishment of patient safety culture.
