구암 이정의 주자학과 경학에 관한 일고찰

A Study on Gu-am Lee Jeong's Neo-Confucianism and his study of Confucian classics

퇴계 문하의 다른 어떤 문인보다 학문적으로나 인간적으로나 퇴계와 가까운 관계라고 평가되는 구암 이정은 주자학적 사유를 충실하게 반영하는 가운데 퇴계학을 계승하였다. 이정의 시문학은 한시를 통하여 주자학적 우주관과 공부론, 그리고 이것의 문학적 형상화인 철리시에 이르기까지 주자학의 본원에 충실한 면모를 보여주고 있다. 그리고 그의 정치론이 들어 있는 산문에서도 주자학적 면모를 확인할 수 있다. 한편 이정의 경학은 그가 남긴 한시 「중용영」에 잘 나타나 있다. 이정은 「중용영」에서 주자학적 사유를 한시로 잘 표현하였을 뿐 아니라, '敬'과 '理'를 중시하는 퇴계학의 특정적 면모도 충실하게 계승해내고 있다. 이정의 시문학에 나타나는 주자학적 요소와 퇴계학적 지향은 이정의 학문이 퇴계학에서 발원했다는 점을 명료하게 보여준 것이라 할 것이다.

Among the Toegye(退溪) disciples, Gu-am(龜巖) Lee Jeong(李楨, 1512~1571) is regarded as the scholar who has the nearest relationship with Toegye, academically and personally. He was the successor to Toegye's philosophy as he faithfully conformed with the neo-Confucian philosophy. Lee Jeong's poetic literature, especially his chinese poetry, showed that he conformed with the doctrines of Neo-Confucianism(朱子學) such as the outlook on the universe, the theory of learning, and the philosophical principles of the poem. Moreover, we are also able to find Neo-Confucian characteristics in his prose, which contains his political view. In particular, the Zhongyongyoung(中庸詠), his Chinese poem(漢詩), could be a good example. He reflects his study of Confucian classics(經學) on the Zhongyongyoung. The Zhongyongyoung contains Neo-Confucian thought and the characteristic ofToegye's philosophy; Toegye's philosophy puts emphasis on gyoung(敬, earnestness) and li(理, principle). Those characteristics of his poetic literature coincides with the idea that his academic background is from Toegye's philosophy.
