Men's Experiences of Child Rearing in Parental Leave System & Change of Gender Relationship: Through the Practice of Men's Child Rearing

이 연구는 한국의 남성 육아휴직자 3명의 심층 면접의 내용을 분석하여 남성 육아휴직제도가 가진 현실적 문제와 남성양육 경험에 드러난 젠더변화를 추적하였다. 서구에서 20-30년 전부터 시작된 헤게모닉 남성성(hegemonic masculinity)의 문제가 서구 스웨덴의 남성 육아 관행에서 드러난 바와 같이 한국의 남성들의 양육 실천에서도 강하게 자리하고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 우리사회 남성 육아휴직자들의 양육 실천에서 발견된 문제는 육아휴직 급여의 비현실적 휴직 급여와, 사회 및 기업의 편견에 의한 억압에 노출되어 있다는 점이다. 또한 가정 내 자녀양육의 경험에서 자녀 양육과 가사노동은 분리될 수 없는 문제임을 알 수 있었다. 남성양육자들이 가진 젠더 문제는 남성 육아휴직의 실효성 있는 개선책을 현실화할 수 있는 문제적 지점들로서, 양육이 일차적으로 어머니(여성)의 일이라는 기존의 젠더 편견과 가사노동의 성별분업 관념을 불식시키는 헤게모닉 남성성의 재구성이 요구되었다. 따라서 이에 근거한 육아휴직제도의 정책적 보완이 필요함을 제안하였다.

In this paper, I explore to realistic problems which parental leave system has and gender change which has been related to experience child rearing. Through analyzing in-depth interviews of three Korean men who have parental leave systems. We could know hegemonic masculinity is deeply rooted in child rearing practice by Korean men like Swedish men's rearing custom which has been shown since 20 or 30 years before. The problems which have been found from our society's child rearing practice by Korean fathers are that this policy should realistically support parental leave subsidy and they are exposed to oppression by prejudice from most of companies in Korea. Also we can know that child rearing experiences in the home can't be separated from domestic labour. Gender problems which men have show whether parental leave system's efficiencial improvement can be achieved or not. So readjusting to a realistic level of paternal leave system is analyzed as a problem which child rearing should be accompanied by existing gender prejudice that child rearing is basically mother's work and hegemonic masculinity reconstruction which wipes out gender division of labour about domestic labour.
