A Study on the Japanese aspects at the Interior Space of Japanese Contemporary House

This study finds out the Japanese aspects at the interior space of Janpanese Contemporary House from 1945 to 2005. 12 houses were selected and represented Janpanese Contemporary House. In expression tendency on the Japanese contemporary House, the Sinden(寝殿)Style and Syoin(書院)Style was only revived with small scale at first, but Sukiya(数寄屋)Style was mostly reinterpreted of it's spatial characteristics as time passes. The idea which was applied on the Japanese contemporary House from each Styles are the open-space idea was extracted from the Sinden(寝殿)Style, the space-division idea was extracted from the Syoin(書 院)Style and the idea of the expression of homogeneous texture, the introduction of natural light, the restriction of expression, the idea of the shadowed space was extracted from the Sukiya(数寄屋)Style. In the background of the tendency, the delicate expression of unrevealing natural aspects is related with the aesthetic of Japanese Yayoi(弥生) period and the Japanese characteristics of Kasikoi(可畏). Furthermore the characteristics of homogeneous cube and universal space which was based on Western Minimalism are related well with Sukiya(数寄屋)Style and became a main interior style of contemporary Japanese House.
