넷 아트 미술가들의 활동 연구

A Study on Activity of Contemporary Artists by Net Arts - With a Special Emphasis Hactivistic Social Involvement -

현대의 미술가들은 작품 활동의 도구로 뉴미디어를 선택하여 다양한 분야에 적용시킴으로써 여러 사회 방면에 참여가 가능해졌다. 뉴미디어는 단순히 새로운 형식으로 정보를 전달할 뿐아니라 여러 작품의 유통 패러다임과 내용, 그리고 표현의 다양성, 소통과 관객의 직접적 참여, 비물질화라는 특성을 가지고 새로운 미술 사조가 되었다. 또한 인터넷이라는 새로운 매체를 이용한 예술적 접근은 예술분야로 사회참여 범위를 확장시켰고, 이에 따라 뉴미디어를 이용한 넷 아트 시대를 살아가는 예술가들의 사회참여가 하나의 사회문제로 등장하게 되었다. 그렇지만 이에 대한 연구는 없음으로 본 연구에서는 뉴미디어 시대에 예술과 접목 된 넷 아트미술가들의 사회참여 현상을 구체적 사례를 통해 파악해 보고 앞으로의 효율적 발전 방안에 대하여 연구하였다. 본 연구에서 주목하고 있는 핵티비즘이란 정치·사회적인 목적을 위해 자신과 노선을 달리하는 정부나 기업, 단체 등의 인터넷 사이트를 해킹하는 행위로 정의내릴 수 있는데, 예술 분야에서 핵티비즘은 작품활동을 통하여 감상자로 하여금 어떠한 의식의 변화나 행동의 실천을 유도하는 형태로 발전해 나가고 있다. 이와 같은 작품활동은 기존의 예술 분야와 결합된 새로운 형식의 예술을 창조해 나가고 있다. 넷 아트에 의한 사회참여는 매체의 특성으로부터 기인한 인터넷이라는 특수 공간에서 일어난다는 점에서 사이버 테러와 해킹의 문제, 정체성과 사생활 침해와 관련된 문제점 등 여러 가지 문제를 포함하고 있다. 이에 대한 발전적 제안으로 본 연구에서는 인터넷 네트워크를 기반으로 한 넷 아트의 여러 작품 사례와 핵티비스트들의 활동을 미술가들의 대표적 사회참여 사례로 보며, 익명성을 통한 사이버 테러나 사생활 침해, 정체성의 문제점을 전문 인력과 기관의 양성, 그리고 청소년들의 인터넷 윤리 교육을 통해 대처해 나가야하며, 여기에 관심을 가지고 있는 일반인들과 함께 서로 소통하고 그것들이 넷 아트를 통해 정치, 사회 등 여러 분야에 우회적이지만 중요한 역할을 수행함으로써 유토피아적 사회를 만드는데 미술가들의 적극적인 참여를 제안하는 바이다.

The contemporary artists have chosen new media as an artistic tool for application to various fields, and their participation in various social fields became possible. The new media deliver information in a simple new format and also became a new art trend with characteristics such as the distribution paradigm of several works and the diversity of information and expression, communication, direct participation of the audience and dematerialization. In addition, the artistic approach through the new medium of the Internet has brought about the applications of arts by the community involvement, so the community involvement of artists who are living in a new media art era appeared as a social issue. However, since there is no study on this, regarding the phenomenon of the artists' participation in the community by net art linked to the arts in the new media era that is rapidly changing, the characteristics through this were understood and effective proposals for the future development according to specific cases were researched. In this study, we should see the work practices of net art based on the Internet network and Hackivists' activities of Hactivism as typical examples of artists' involvement in the community and we suggested some directions of the net art, like cyber terrorism through anonymity, invasion of privacy and issues of identity should be coped with training of professional staff and agencies, and education of the Internet ethics for youth, and communications should be made with the ordinary people interested in that. In addition, a more active participation of contemporary artists is essentially required to create a utopian society by playing an indirect but important role in political, social, and other areas through the new media art.
