한국 조형장신구에 나타나는 재료 변화와 특성

Material Changes and Characteristics in Korean Art Jewelry

역사적으로 살펴보면 장신구는 인체를 장식하거나 지위와 재화의 가치 등의 표현 수단으로 관계하면서 그 가치를 발휘해 왔다. 현대에는 개인의 정신적 가치를 발휘하는 조형 예술품의 형태로 등장하는 등 그 형태는 매우 다변화되어 왔다. 20세기에 이르러 경제적인 회복과 보편적인 사회적 평등이 이뤄지면서 서구의 영향을 받아 독립적인 조형예술의 한 형태로 조형장신구의 개념이 전개 되었다. 세계적인 흐름에 따라 독창적이고 작가의 개성을 담은 작품세계를 구축하려는 노력을 통해 현대에 들어 조형장신구의 다양성을 열어가고 있지만, 한국의 장신구를 논함에 있어서 시대별 흐름과 재료적 변화를 정리한 이론적인 연구가 부족한 현실이다. 따라서 형태와 시기에 따른 포괄적인 구분의 한 측면으로써 재료에 비중을 두고 시대흐름에 따라 변화하는 조형장신구의 목적과 표현형식을 살펴보았다. 한국 조형장신구의 발전과정을 시대별로 1970년대 모색기, 1980∼1990년대 도입기, 2000∼2010년대 발전기에 이르기까지의 과정을 재료에 비중을 두고 나타나는 조형적 변화를 통해 조형장신구를 분석하였으며 시대별 고찰을 통해 재료별 특징과 변화가 적용된 사례를 살펴보았다. 본 연구의 목적은 시대별 장신구의 조형변화를 살펴보고 새로운 재료 도입과 재료 확장에 따른 기술변화, 장르변화 등 조형장신구의 발전과정을 고찰하고 장신구의 통합적 조형의식을 이해하는데 도움을 주고자 하는데 그 의의가 있다.

Historically, jewelry have been proving their values as they decorate human bodies or are used as a way to describe positions, events and others. Today, as they are being recognized as plastic arts that would explain spiritual values of individuals, the jewelry are truly considered very much diversified in forms. By the 20th century, humans came to enjoy economic turnarounds and social equality in general and that helped the previous definition of jewelry to turn into some independent plastic arts caused by Western influence. Along with global trends at present, jewelry of the today are being even more diversified by an artist' attempt to build one's own art world with one's original characteristics applied and yet, when it comes to discussing jewelry in Korea, not so many theoretical researches on trends in different times and changes in materials have been conducted. For that reason, in the concerned study, materials of the jewelry were given greater weight as one way to generally categorize forms and periods and as focusing on the materials, the study looked into purposes and expression methods of the modern jewelry which would change with the stream of times. The developments of the modern jewelry in Korea were categorized into a seek period in the 1970's, an introduction period in the 1980's~the 1990's and a development period in the 2000's~the 2010's. With the materials as the main index to understand changes in jewelry designs, the study analyzed t he modern jewelry while discussing characteristics and changes of the materials found in each of the periods. The concerned study is considered academically significant for it examined changes in the jewelry designs of each period as looking into how to introduce new materials and a development process of the modern jewelry such as changes in technology and genres. Findings of the study are, accordingly, believed to be a good help to understand integrated molding of jewelry.
