교수학습방법으로써의 교육연극 활용 사례연구

Educational Drama and Theatre as an Instructional Method: An Analysis of Three Examples

본 연구는 공연 매체가 아니라 소통과 교감의 교수학습방법으로써 연극이 활용될 수 있는 가능성을 탐색하고자 학교 안팎에서 실시되었던 교육연극의 세 가지 사례를 분석하였다. 이 사례들은 다문화학교, 학교폭력예방교육, 남해섬 예술축제수업 사례이었으며 여기서 수집된 자료들은 질적 다중사례연구 기법으로 분석되었다. 자료 분석 결과, 교육연극은 세 가지 사례에서 공통적으로 학생들에게 공조학습의 기회를 제공하며 협동심과 표현력 개발에 도움을 주는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 교육연극은 다문화 학생들에게는 공감 능력을, 학교폭력예방수업에 참여한 학생들에게는 문제 중심 학습과 일맥상통한 과정 중심의 학습경험을 제공하였으며, 다문화 학교와 남해예술축제 수업을 통해서는 연극 예술에 대한 태도 변화를 가져온 것으로 분석되었다. 이런 결과는 교육연극이 학교 안팎의 교육현장에서 학생들의 창의성, 협동성, 표현력, 예술적 감수성을 개발하는 데 긍정적으로 기여할 수 있음을 보여준다. 이러한 논의와 아울러 본 연구는 교육연극을 활용하고자 하는 교수자나 교수설계자가 수업 전, 중, 후에 고려해야 할 실천적 사항들을 제시하였다.

This study explored the possibility of educational drama/theatre as an instructional method that can be applied to a variety of educational settings. For this purpose, the study analyzed three cases of educational drama instructions, which were carried out in a multi-cultural school located in Seoul, as a school violence prevention program in Ansan, and for culture and arts education program of Namhae Island Festival, respectively. The analysis of the qualitative multiple case studies revealed that educational drama/theatre provided the participant students with the opportunities of Mutual Assistance Learning while enhancing the skills regarding cooperation and self-expression. Also, the method of educational drama/theatre was found to help facilitate the students to develop empathy skills in the case of the multicultural school program, process oriented learning experiences similar to Problem Based Learning for the school violence case, and to bring about positive changes in the attitude towards theatre arts for the multicultural school and Namhae Island Festival cases. In summary, this study demonstrated that educational drama/theatre can have positive impacts on student learning in the domains of creativity, cooperation, self-expression, and artistic sensitivity. Finally, this paper provided instructors or instructional designers with practical considerations as to the way of developing and implementing educational drama/theatre in and out of school settings.
