기혼여성의 육아와 취업에 대한 갈등과 해결방안 탐구

Analysis of Struggles and Solutions of Childcare and Work of Married Women : A Comparative Study between Housewives and Working Wives

이 연구의 목적은 두 돌 이하 연령대의 자녀를 돌보고 있는 엄마들이 전업주부 혹은 취업주부로서 육아 및 취업과 관련하여 현실적으로 겪고 있는 문제를 진단해보고, 그들의 내면적인 어려움에 대한 깊이 있는 이해를 도우며, 그에 맞는 해결방안을 탐색해보는 것이다. 이를 위하여 심층 면담을 통한 질적 사례연구 방법을 사용하였으며, 현재 두 돌 이하의 자녀를 최소한 한 명씩 두고 있는 전업주부 두 명과 취업주부 두 명을 면담자로 선정하여 연구를 진행하였다. 연구 결과, 전업주부와 취업주부는 모두 주부로서의 역할 갈등을 겪고 있었지만 전업주부는 엄마로서 만족감이 높은 반면 육아스트레스도 높았으며, 취업주부는 아이를 제대로 돌보지 못한다는 부담감을 지니고 있었다. 직장생활에 대한 갈등으로는 전업주부는 육아를 위해 직장생활을 그만둔 경우 경력단절에 따른 갈등과 고민이 있었으며, 취업주부는 육아와 직장생활을 병행하는 것에 대한 끊임없는 갈등과 혼란을 겪고 있었다. 사회구조적으로는 전업주부와 취업주부 모두 여성들에게 육아가 전담되는 현실에 어려움을 겪고 있었으며 특히 전업주부의 경우 사회적 지지에 대한 만족도와 신뢰도가 낮았다. 이러한 갈등을 해결하기 위하여 전업주부와 취업주부 모두 갈등과 혼란을 받아들이고자 노력하고 있었으며, 이들의 특성을 반영한 실효성 있는 제도와 지원이 요구되는 것으로 나타났다.

The purpose of this study was to identify practical problems of mothers having babies, understand their inner struggles, and search the solutions for resolving the conflicts as housewives or working wives. To achieve the purpose, a qualitative case study was conducted by interviewing two housewives and two working wives who have at least one child younger than two years old. Major findings are as follows. Both housewives and working wives have difficulties of doing the housework, but housewives are under more stress while they encounter high level of satisfaction of caring their children. On the other hand, working wives regret not to share enough time with their children. Concerning the career, housewives who have quitted their job for caring babies are worried about career break, and working wives face other problems such as work-life balance. Concerning social structure, housewives as well as working wives suffer from practical problems of having the whole responsibility for childcare, and housewives tend to consider governmental support is insufficient. To resolve these struggles, both housewives and working wives are endeavoring to adapt difficulties and request differentiated support system and substantial social assistance depending on their current status.
