Review on Witness Protection Act in Korea by on America’s

Threat to witness in criminal procedures is increased rapidly. Recently, a woman killed after testimony, similar cases occur frequently. The threat like this increased 3times after 2006. So the problem has been more seriously than any times. Korea have special protection act for criminal reporter on specific crime, the act seek to keep the privacy of witness by restricting public examination in certain cases. Therefor, it is crucial that witnesses be protected from any abuse during the criminal proceedings and from any threats from the accused. The Witness Protection Program of USA has a good regulation for it. They have serious concern for that problem during 40years. Of course we considered this program but it still have some week point. For example, adviser for criminal procedure is good for witness, especially in court, but we only have a person to help witness not for adviser in criminal procedure. Plus, in USA has some program for witnesses new identity and new place we don’ have. Therefore, this regulation will be helped to witness on violent crimes, so we have some point to consider. We have more attention about witness protection than in the past, but still have many week point. So we need more research for witness protection.
