A Study on the Analysis of Informal Consultation Meeting of the 68th UN Sustainable Fisheries Resolution in 2013 and Related Domestic Policy Countermeasures

This study is aimed to analyze various issues which was brought up in the informal consultation meeting on sustainable fisheries resolution of United Nations, which was held from November 12 to 19, 2013. The meeting delt with IUU fishing activities, Sharks finning, Marine Protected Area(MPA), capacity building, and other important global fisheries issues. For IUU fishing activities, it is notable that INTERPOL's Project SCALE is launched to enhance the law enforcement ability through member states' active participation and the international cooperation. Considering the effect of adopting the sustainable fisheries resolution in global fisheries governance, the informal consultation meeting is very important in many ways. It is urgently necessary to analyze the potential meaning of each agenda and to prepare countermeasures in cope with the international fisheries trends. For a sustainable fisheries, it is highly required to enhance enforcement ability in compliance with domestic and/or international IUU related regulation. At the same time, it is appropriate to restructure Korean fishing industries to be competitive in global market.
