Needs and Directions of Multicultural Education

이 연구는 다양성과 통합성이 균형을 이루는 다문화교육을 통한 상생의 길을 모색키 위해 다문화교육의 필요성에 대하여 대상별로 살펴보고, 특히 다문화교사 교육의 필요성과 다문화교육의 지향점에 대해서 고찰한다. 한국사회가 다인종, 다문화 사회로 변화해가고 있음에도 불구하고 그에 대비한 교육적 준비가 부족한 실정이기 때문에 다문화가정의 자녀 상당수가 한국어능력 부족, 한국문화 부적응, 인종적, 문화적 편견에 따른 정체성 혼란 등을 겪고 있다. 따라서 이들의 교육적 소외를 해소하기 위해 학교교육의 역할이 매우 중요하다. 이를 위해 학교사회에서 교장, 교감, 교사, 학부모 그리고 관련자들이 서로 협력함으로써 학교 다문화교육 활동의 폭을 넓혀가야 한다. 또한 학교 밖의 다문화교육을 통해 체류, 신분 문제 등으로 인한 미취학 상태의 아동과 경찰관들의 다문화교육을 통해 다문화인들에 대한 사회적 인식의 변화와 조력자로서의 경찰관들의 역할 변화를 꾀한다. 다문화인들의 다양성과 국가 통합을 위한 한국 국민으로서 정체성이 어우러지는 건강한 다문화 사회를 이룩하기 위해 다문화 교육을 위한 전 국민의 인식변화를 이끌어 냄으로써 사회통합을 이루어야 할 것이다.

This study overviews the needs of multicultural education by types in order to find a way to vitalize the diversity and wholeness balanced multicultural education, and focused on considering the needs and aim of multicultural education. Although Korean society is changing into multi racial and cultural society, educational preparation to this changes are very poor. And this insufficiency is resulted in poorness in learning and using Korean, maladjustment in Korean culture, confusing identity from racial and cultural prejudice. So, the role of school education is very important to settle their educational alienation. A principal, vice-principal, teachers, parents, all parties concerned should cooperate and make a wide breadth of culture education activity. Also, the role of police officers should be changed as a stimulater and have a changed mind in respect of them by multicultural education outside school. We should make social integration by eliciting change of recognition over the whole nation to achieve healthy multicultural society that diversity of multicultural people with identity as Korean for the nation integration.
