호모 키비쿠스, 실존적 자아실현을 위한 배움인간

Homo Civicus, Homo Eruditius for Existential Self-actualization

학교교육은 물론 성인학습, 평생교육 차원에서도 배움을 통한 자아실현이란 목표 및 이념은 강조되고 있다. 그러나 타자와의 유의미(有意味)한 관계형성을 통해 자아실현을 추구하는 실존적 인간 혹은 시민적 인간(Homo Civicus)에 대한 학문적 및 교육적 관심은 부족했던 것이 사실이다. 본 논문에서는 자아실현의 전제로서의 시민적 속성을 실존주의 철학의 관점에서 논의하고, 글로벌 사회에서의 자아실현을 위한 타자에 대한 논의를 전개한다. 글로벌 시대의 타자란 타인은 물론, 개인의 자유와 존엄성을 위협하는 다양한 이슈들, 이를테면 정치참여, 양성평등, 매스미디어 및 소셜미디어, 다문화, 환경, 세계화, 기업시민의식 등이 포함된다. 이런 타자와의 유의미한 관계를 형성하기 위한 인식과 적극적인 태도 및 행동이 자아실현을 위한 배움임을 본 논문은 주장한다.

The educational goal or ideal of self-actualization through 'eruditio' has been emphasized in not only school education but also adult learning or lifelong learning. Few academic concerns or discussions, however, have been done regarding homo civicus seeking for self-actualization through meaningful relationship with others. This paper was concerned with the discussion. The meaning of 'others' in globalization society includes not only other people but also a variety of global issues threatening the freedom and respectedness of individual people in global society: political participation, gender inequality, mass-media including social network service, multicultural issues, sustainable environment, globalization, corporate citizenship. The paper concludes that the 'eruditio' or education should focus on the understanding, attitude and behavior of 'homo eruditius' with a view to form a meaningful relationship with the 'others'.
