대학에서 효과적인 다문화 교육의 내용구성에 대한 고찰

A Study on Implementing Effective Multi-cultural Education at the University Level

지구촌 시대인 오늘날 다문화 교육을 통해 얻을 수 있는 문화적 다원성에 대한 이해와 다양한 문화의 공존방식의 모색, 그리고 문화 간 소통에 대한 노력은 대학교육에서 다루어야 할 가치 있는 교육목표가 되어야 한다. 즉 21세기의 대학교육은 서로 다른 문화들 간의 상호 이해와 존중을 교육함으로써 보다 높은 인간적 이상을 지향할 수 있다. 구체적으로 글로벌 이해교육(global awareness education), 문화인류학, 문화학 등의 과목들을 대학 교육과정 내에서 확충시키는 방법이 있다. 이러한 교육적 접근은 자문화중심주의로의 몰입이나 문화적 무정부주의를 동시에 경계하며 개인의 다문화적 감수성을 제고하는데 일조 할 것이다. 이를 통해 사고의 유연성과 간문화적(inter-cultural) 소통역량을 배양할 수 있다. 바로 이 점이 글로벌시대의 변화하는 환경에 대처할 수 있는 인재양성을 목적으로 하는 대학들의 교육적 지향점이 되어야 한다.

This article examines the ways in which universities, particularly in the area of post-secondary level curricula, should respond to the needs of multi-cultural education. In an age of global community, universities should . pursue the kind of education that promotes inter-cultural communication, inter-cultural understanding, mutual tolerance, and ultimately co-prosperity based on mutual acceptance between different peoples. Universities in the 21st century should design its curricula so that they can realize such ideals. For instance, subjects such as global awareness education, anthropology, culture studies, etc. can be expanded and elaborated within the existing university curricula to accommodate multi-cultural sensitivities. Such an approach will enable the students to develop appreciation for other cultures as well as a flexible and open mind that allows inter-cultural communication ability to fully bloom in the ever-changing global context.
