매개효과 연구에서 자료의 분포형태에 따른 Sobel의 검정방법과 비대칭신뢰한계방법의 비교

Comparison of Sobel's test and asymmetric confidence limits with varied distribution shapes in mediation analysis

최근 사회과학의 다양한 분야에서 매개효과 연구가 활발히 수행되고 있다. 매개효과는 두 경로 계수의 곱으로 나타내며, 이러한 매개효과는 일반적으로 정규분포를 따르지 않는다. 따라서 본 모의실험연구는 단순한 매개효과 모형인 보통최소제곱 회귀모형을 사용하여 자료의 다양한 분포형태가 매개효과의 추정과 검정에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지 조사하였다. 또한 본 연구에는 Sobel의 검정방법과 비대칭신뢰한계방법을 비교하였다. 연구 결과에 따르면, 자료의 비정규성은 경험적 일종오류와 통계적 검정력 비율, 그리고 포함확률에 별다른 영향을 미치지 않는 것으로 관찰되었다. 그리고 비대칭신뢰한계방법이 Sobel의 검정방법보다 경험적 일종오류 비율, 통계적 검정력 비율, 그리고 포함확률에서 더 우수한 결과를 산출하였다.

In social sciences, mediation analysis has been frequently conducted in many areas. Generally, the mediated effect is not normally distributed. Thus, this Monte Carlo simulation study investigated the effects of nonnormality on estimating and testing the mediated effect with the simple mediation model of OLS regression. Futhermore, this study compared asymmetric distribution limits and Sobel's test in terms of testing the mediated effect. The results showed that varied types of nonnormality did not seriously affect empirical Type I error rates, statistical power rates, and coverage probability. Also, it was found that the asymmetric confidence limits performed better than Sobel's test.
