수학 성취도 향상에 영향을 미치는 학교급별 특성 비교 분석

School Characteristics Affecting Students' Math Achievement among Elementary, Middle and High Schools

이 연구는 「학교 교육 실태 및 수준 분석 연구」에서 수집한 초ㆍ중ㆍ고 1-3주기 자료를 활용하여, 학교급별로 수학 성취도 향상에 영향을 미치는 학교 특성이 어떻게 다른지를 비교ㆍ분석하였다. 1-3주기 자료를 유사종단자료로 구성하여 3수준 다층분석을 실시하였으며, 고정효과 모형 분석을 통하여 학교과정 변인의 효과를 분석하였다. 분석결과, 첫째, 초ㆍ중ㆍ고 모두 수학 성취도 분산의 대부분을 학생간 분산이 차지하였지만, 학교급이 올라갈수록 학교수준 분산이 증가하였다. 둘째, 모든 학교급에서 학교평균 SES와 지역규모의 효과가 유의하게 나타났으며, 학교급이 올라갈수록 그 효과가 커지는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 학교과정 변인으로는 초등학교의 경우 교사 성취압력과 교사 자율성이, 중학교에서는 교사열의가, 고등학교에서의 교사 성취압력과 열의가 성취도 향상에 긍정적 효과를 가지는 것으로 나타났다. 넷째, 학교정책과 관련해서는 평가결과활용이 중학교와 고등학교에서 유의한 긍정적 효과를 가지는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과는 학교급이 올라갈수록 학교배경의 효과가 커지며, 모든 학교급에서 교사 변인이 중요하되, 효과가 발휘되는 방식에서 차이가 있음을 시사한다.

This paper examines how school characteristics affecting students' math achievement differ among elementary, middle and high schools using 1st-3rd cycles of「Analysis on the Actual Status and Quality of School education」data. 3 level multi-layer model of student-time-school and panel fixed-effects model are performed. Results of analysis show that school level variance tend to increase as school level goes up while most of math achievement variance are attributed to between-students variance in all school levels. Second, school mean SES and area size have significant effect in all school levels and the effect tend to increase as school level goes up. Third, teachers' achievement pressure and autonomy in elementary school, teachers' enthusiasm in middle school, teachers' achievement pressure and enthusiasm in high school have positive effect on math achievement among school process variables. Fourth, application of evaluation results have positive effect in middle and high school related with school policy. These findings suggest that the effects of school background increase as school level goes up and teacher variables are important in all school levels while the way teacher variables affect students' achievement differs depending on school levels.
