This paper aims to examine both the effects of environmental regulatory pressures on green supply chain management capabilities and green supply chain management capabilities on corporate performance. These green supply chain management capabilities have emerged recently as a key factor for companies to achieve sustainable competitive advantage. Based on literature review, 3 hypotheses were set up and the empirical study using survey research was accomplished. A questionnaire survey was conducted from the Chinese manufacturing companies from which 107 questionnaires were collected. Partial Least Square was also applied to these data to test relationships among the variables in the study. Our research findings show that 1) environmental regulatory pressure for Chinese manufacturing firms is main driver of constructing green supply chain management capabilities, like green manufacturing/packing capability, environmental participation capability, green marketing capability, eco-design capability, and reverse logistics management capability, 2) green manufacturing/packing capability and eco-design capability are major factors affecting positively both business performance and environmental performance, and 3) environmental participation capability, green marketing capability, and reverse logistics management capability have no effects on both business performance and environmental performance. The findings suggest that green supply chain management capabilities are affecting corporate performance partially, and they are affected by environmental regulatory pressures in Chinese manufacturing firms.
