The aim of this study is to explore the characteristics of high-frequency verb collocations with noun phrase in Korean high school English textbooks. For this study, the reading sections of twenty high school English textbooks were selected and complied as a target corpus to conduct the analysis. Also, COCA(The Corpus of Contemporary American English) was employed as a reference corpus to compare non-native and native countries' usage of high-frequency collocations. The results are as follows. First, there were no prominent differences between target corpus (HETC) and reference corpus (COCA) in distribution of high-frequency verbs. Second, there were many similarities in types and characteristics of verb+noun collocations between HETC and COCA. Third, delexical function in the combination with nouns of each verb in both HETC and COCA was remarkable. In conclusion, the distribution of high frequency verbs between HETC and COCA was similar and there were no distinct differences in their combination with noun phrases. However, in order to make high school English textbooks more efficient learning materials, more various kinds of vocabularies are needed to make collocations. Further extensive studies about collocations are required to investigate more detailed aspects of corpus-based analysis.
