Study of the reception phenomenon of English loanwords in Korean and Polish

영어는 세계적으로 가장 널리 통용되는 국제어로서 거의 모든 국가에 언어적 영향을 미치고 있다. 최근 한국과 폴란드에서는 무역 및 광고에서뿐만 아니라, IT 기술의 발달로 인한 인터넷 사용 등으로 영어로부터의 어휘 차용이 집중적으로 일어남을 확인할 수 있다. 인터넷은 물론 특히 미디어와 홍보 관련 분야에서 이미 널리 쓰이는 영어 차용어를 자국어로 대체하는 것이 현실적으로 힘들기 때문이다. 본 연구에서는 영어가 한국어와 폴란드어로 유입될 때 겪는 음운론, 형태론, 통사론, 의미론적 분석과 더불어, 특히 젊은 세대의 영어차용현상에 대해 살펴본다.

English has been superlatively notorious as a word borrower, but it is safe to say that every one of the Western European tongues has supplemented its word stock through adoptions from other languages. A large number of English words has also flowed into other languages like waves, spreading widely and quickly throughout both Korea and Poland. Indeed, it was the first foreign language to exercise a great influence on the language life of Koreans and Poles. Foreign words go through a phonological, morphological, syntactic, and pragmatic change when incorporated into the homeland's vocabulary system. This paper examines how these words are adopted into Korean and Polish. The study comprises three parts. The first and second parts analyze the concerns related to the linguistic borrowings and the formation of new words derived from English in Korean and Polish. The third part studies the reception phenomenon of the most frequently used English loanwords in Korean and Polish, especially among the young generations.
