Russian empire's expansion and North Caucasus: ideology, conquest, and resistance

제정러시아가 영토 팽창을 위해 국가 권력을 강력히 사용하던 19세기에 러시아인들에게는 민족주의 의식이 매우 강하게 발동되었다. 러시아는 제국과 민족주의 요소로 이민족을 정복하거나 정치적으로 지배권을 유지해왔다. 본 논고는 러시아제국이 남부로 영토 확장을 시도하면서, 필연적으로 마주쳤던 무슬림들과의 역사적 충돌을 규명하고, 러시아가 유럽제국으로서 국가 정체성을 정립해 나가는 데 있어서 나타난 제국의 이념, 그리고 폭력을 수반한 제정러시아의 정복 및 이에 저항한 북카프카스 민족들의 저항을 중심으로 러시아 제국확장의 이념과 의미를 분석하는 시도이다. 러시아가 남부의 핵심요충지인 북카프카스를 강제로 점령하는 과정을 서술하는 내용으로 이루어진다.

This article explores Imperial Russia's expansion and North Caucasus focused on ideology, conquest and resistance. This article examines diverse relations imperial Russia and Muslim peoples in North Caucasus. This article investigate Russian Empire's territorial expansion to the south, while trying to seise North Caucasus's Muslims. Russian Empire conquered other tribes and nationalist elements, and has maintained political dominance. Chapter II examines empire's dominant symbol and ideology of Russian empire's expansion. Chapter III analyzes Russia's imperial ideology in 18th century and territorial expansion. Chapter IV explores Russia's empire and North Caucasus in 19th centurt focused on conquest and resistance. This paper attempts deepen Chechen national identity. It reviews specification of the Russian Empire as a European national identity appeared in the process of establishing the ideology of empire and conquest.
