Images of Neighboring Country: The Image of Poland in Germany

이 글의 주제는 독일의 눈에 비친 폴란드의 이미지이다. 이 이미지는 인접한 나라에서 흔히 볼 수 있듯이 부정적이다. 독일의 폴란드 이미지는 우월 의식과 피해 의식이 착종된, 다소 복합적인 의식의 형태를 띠고 있다. 이 글에서는 이처럼 상반된 두 개의 의식과 이미지를 분리해서 고찰해보고자 한다. 그러한 이미지들이 언제, 어떻게, 어떠한 이유에서 생성되고 확산되는지를 살펴보았다. 주지하다시피, 독일과 폴란드를 포함한 유럽의 근현대사는 갈등과 반목으로 점철된 역사였으며, 폴란드 이미지는 그러한 환경에서 형성되고 발전되었다. 그러나 독일 통일과 폴란드의 유럽연합 가입이라는 역사적으로 유례가 없는 근본적인 환경의 변화를 맞이한 가운데, 오랜 역사와 질긴 생명력을 가진 독일의 폴란드 이미지가 과연 어떻게 변화하는지도 이 글의 관심사 중 하나이다.

The subject of this article is the image of Poland in Germany. The image is negative, as it can be seen frequently in the relationship of neighboring countries. German images of Poland have a complex form of consciousness that is a mixture of conscious superiority and damage consciousness. In this article, such two contradictory images will be analyzed. It will be discussed, when, how and for some reason such images created and spreaded were and are. Does it know, modern history of Europe, including Germany and Poland, is dominated by conflicts and antagonisms. Poland images were formed and developed in such an environment. However, in the context of the German unification and Poland's accession to EU that are historically unprecedented changes in the environment, it is indeed one of the biggest interests of this article, to see whether, and how the German images of Poland with a long history and tough life change.
