KOSTAT-CIS를 이용한 경기도 경기선행지수의 작성 및 활용

Gyeonggi-do Leading Economic Indicator: Measuring and Predicting Economic Conditions in Gyeonggi-do

본고는 통계청에서 제공하고 있는 KOSTAT-CIS 프로그램을 이용하여 경기도 경기선행지수를 작성하고 이를 이용하여 경기도 지역경기 판단에 활용할 수 있는 사례를 제시하였다. 경기도 관련 137개 변수의 경기대응성과 경기일치성 등을 검토하여, 재고순환지수(제조업)-생산자제품재고(중간재)-건축허가면적 실질자본재수입액-코스피지수-예금은행 실질운전자금 대출금-국제원자재가격지수 등으로 이루어진 경기도 경기선행지수를 작성하고 기준 선행지수로 명명하였다 기준 경기선행지수의 전환점은 동행지수 순환변동치상 정저점에 평균 4.3개월 선행하고, 동행지수 순환변동치와 선행지수 순환변동치와의 최대 시차상관계수는 약 6개월 선행한 시점에서 0.70을 나타내어 경기대응성과 경기일치성 측면에서 양호한 특성을 보여주었다. 또한, 2003년 1 월부터 가용한 번수들을 추가하여 보조 선행지수를 작성하였으며 경기도 경기동행지수의 경기도 경기상황 반영력이 우수하여 동행지수에 대해 양호한 선행성이 확보된 경기선행지수는 경기도 경기상황을 예측하는데 유용하게 활용될 수 있음을 살펴보았다.

This paper develops a leading economic indicator measuring and predicting economic conditions in Gyeonggi-do. For this purpose, we utilize KOSTAT-CIS program which is dis띠buted by Statistics Korea. After 137 variables related to Gyeonggi-do economic conditions are collected and examined in terms of economic significance, conformity, consistent timing, etc, a reference leading economic indicator of Gyeonggi-do is developed. Turning points based on the newly developed reference indicator lead the potential turning points on Gyeonggi do business cycles 4.3 months on average‘ The cross-correlation coefficient between the leading and coincident indicators records 0.7 in 6 months. For this reason, the developed indicator as a lea버ng economic index can be utilized in predicting economic conditions in Gyeonggi-do. In addition, we show that the coincident economic index of Gyeonggi-do has a very strong explanatory power of Gyeonggi-do’s main macroeconomic variables such as real Gross Regional Domestic Product and the number of employed persons. Considering this finding and the precedence of the leading indicator against the coincident indicator, the newly developed leading indicator is expected to play a great role in measuring and predicting Gyeonggi-do’s business cycles.
