<리얼 휴먼>을 통해 본 휴머노이드 로봇의 언캐니

The Uncanny of Humanoid Robots in Real Humans

영화나 TV 속에서 재현되는 휴머노이드(humanoid) 캐릭터는 왜 자주 두려운 존재로 묘사되는개 이들의 모습은 어떠한 양식으로 재현되며 그들이 재현하는 두려움의 의미는 과연 무엇인개 이러한 의문의 답에 초석을 제공하는 데에 이 연구의 목적이 있다. 이러한 의문과 그 해답에 접근하기 위해 엔취(Jentsch)와 프로이트(Freud)의 '언캐니(the uncanny, 독일 원어 das unheirnlich)' 개념과 모리(Mori)의 '언캐니밸리(the uncanny valle)', 개념에 의지하여 TV 드라마 <리얼 휴먼/Real Humans (KBS, 2013)>을 분석할 것이다. <리얼 휴먼>은 로봇과 인간의 대립을 주제로 삼으면서 로봇이 인간에게 언캐니한 존재로 다가올 수밖에 없는 이유를 정면으로 다루는 동시에 로봇의 외형적 특정이 지니는 언캐니한 모습 또한 적확하게 제시해 주는 좋을 예라 할 수 있다 <리얼 휴먼>은 로봇이 인력을 대체함으로써 발생하는 산업 현장에서의 인간 소외를 직접적으로 다루는 동시에 너무나도 인간을 닮은 외형 덕분에 사랑의 대상으로까지 부상함으로써 발생하는 가정에서의 인간 소외 또한 재현하면서 가까운 미래에 휴머노이드의 양산을 현실적으로 기대하고 있는 현재 시점에서 인간에게 재앙으로 다가올 수 있는 로봇의 모습을 보여줌으로써 로봇과 인간과의 관계 정립을 요구하고 기대하게 만드는 문화적 기능 또한 수행한다.

Why do the humanoid characters in (television) movies produce an atmosphere of terror? How are the figures represent and what is the meaning of the fear they express? The purpose of this study is to lay the foundation stone of the answers for these questions. In order to approach to the answers, I want to analyze Swedish television drama Real Humans in reliance on the concepts of 'the uncanny (das unheimlich in the original German terminology)' advocated by Jentsch and developed by Freud and 'the uncanny valley' suggested by Mori. Real Humans is a good example to examine the theme of conflicts between humans and robots, to deal with the reason why robots are uncanny figures for humans, and to show precisely the uncanny features of robots' physical appearance. Real Humans deals with human alienation in the economic area caused by robots' substitution for humans, and at the same time, represents that in the family area brought about from their strong resemblance to human appearance. As a result, it asks us to establish the relationship between humans and robots at the present time that mass production of humanoid robot is expected in the near future.
