The Korean musical history is divided into five eras: (i) The primitive music denotes the dawn of Korean music that encompasses from the beginning of the establishment of the Anak Mound No. 3 in 357; (ii) The ancient music refers to the acceptance of Chinese music that is called the 'Era of International Exchange' stretching from 357 to the introduction of Daeseongaak (Chinese classical or court music) in 1116; (iii) The music of the medieval time encompasses from the period of feudal music up to the development of court music taking the year of 1116 to the compilation of Yanggeumsinbo in 1610; (iv) The modern music includes from the 'Era of the Humanist Music' to that of folk music from 1610 and to the foundation of Western military brass band in 1900; (v) The contemporary music contains a pursuit of a national music to the introduction of European classical music from 1900 to the present time.
