Objective: This study was conducted to discover the relationship between Montreal Cognitive Assessment(Korean version of Montreal Cognitive assessment; MoCA-K) and conventional cognitive assessment in stroke patients. In order to do so, MMSE-K (Korean version of the Mini-Mental State Examination; MMSE-K) and LOTCA (Lowenstein Occupational Therapy Cognitive Assessment; LOTCA) were utilized and the results were used to discover the relationship. Method: In June 2010, 30 stroke patients from a general hospital in Seoul, 1 rehabilitation hospital and 2 long-stay hospitals in Gyeonggido were studied and an occupational therapist used MoCA-K, MMSE-K, and LOTCA to analyze. Results: There was no significant difference present in MoCA-K results between general characteristics. However, a significant difference(p<.05) was discovered for MMSE-K and LOTCA results, according to gender. MoCA-K results showed a correlation with MMSE-K(r=.83, p<.01) and LOTCA(r=.82, p<.01). MMSE-K displayed a correlation(r=.88, p<.01) with LOTCA. Conclusion: It can be concluded that MoCA-K is a cognitive assessment tool that shows a correlation with MMSE-K and LOTCA. Hence, MoCA-K can be used as an effective cognitive assessment tool for stroke patients.
