Objective: The effects of bridging stabilization exercise on static balance of stroke patients on different weight-bearing surfaces have been investigated. Method: Thirty-six stroke patients were divided into two groups: stable weight-bearing surface and unstable weight-bearing surface. Both groups exercised bridging stabilization for 8weeks. To assess static balance, area and distance from the center of pressure, L/RWDDV(left/right weight distribution of the difference value), K-BBS(Korean version of Berg balance scale), TIS(trunk impairment scale), and Fugl-Meyer Assessment were performed. One way repeated ANOVA was performed to measure the difference with in each sample group. ANCOVA was used to compare the differences between the sample groups. Bonferroni was performed in order to see the changes over interventions for each group. Results: On a stable weight-bearing surface, L/R WDDV, K-BBS, TIS and FMA showed statistically significant increases. On unstable weight-bearing surface, L/R WDDV, K-BBS, TIS, FMA and COP, more affected side path also showed significant differences. The sample groups showed statistically significant differences in COP, L/R WDDV, K-BBS and TIS. Conclusion: Stroke patient's bridging stabilization exercise on unstable weight-bearing surface improved static balance performance. Therefore, exercise on unstable weight-bearing surface will increase the intensity of the training and reduce the risk of falling by improving static balance.
