온라인 실제 자료를 활용한 초등영어 읽기 교육 효과 연구

A study of the effects of a reading program using authentic online materials on teaching elementary school students for their reading competence in English

The purpose of this study is to observe the effects of the reading program using the online authentic materials on students' English skills and their affective domains. The subjects of this study were twenty-seven 6th graders in an elementary school located in Sungnam. Twelve Internet sites in the scope of the students' need and want were adopted according to the national elementary English curriculum, and then linked to the class homepage bulletin board. To investigate the effects of the program on the students, analyses of the data comparing pre- and post-reading evaluations, pre- and post-examinations for checking out students' affective domains, teacher's notes, students' learning logs, and interviews with students were conducted. The reading program using authentic online materials were found to have positively contributed to enhancing students' English reading competence by offering chances for intensifying and supplementing reading individually with multimedia. The reading program also made a positive contribution to students' motivation by giving the various topics and forms that show real life connecting with their personal life. Based on the findings from the research, a few suggestions were made for the effective operation of the reading program using authentic online materials.
