평생교육연구에 있어서의 질적연구방법 선택 기준 정립에 대한 소고

Establishing criteria on selecting a research method among qualitative research methods

최근 많은 평생교육학 연구들이 질적연구방법을 활용하여 다양한 성과를 축적하고 있지만 연구방법의 선택과 활용 등과 같은 연구방법론에 있어서는 아직까지 체계화된 논의가 이루어지지 못하고 있다. 이에 본 논문은 평생교육 연구에 있어서 질적연구방법의 선택기준을 정립하여 연구방법론의 체계화를 위한 논의의 출발점을 제시하는 것을 목적으로 하고 있다. 이를 위해 본 논문은 기존의 다양한 연구방법 선택기준을 비판적으로 검토하고, '실체적 관심'과 '인식론적 관심'을 포함하는 연구목적이 연구방법의 선택 기준이 되어야 함을 제시하고 있다. 또한 질적연구방법의 대표적인 방법이라고 할 수 있는 현상학, 민속지학, 사례연구, 근거이론, 생애사가 각각 어떠한 고유의 실체적 관심과 인식론적 관심으로 구성된 연구목적을 충족시켜주기 위해 최적화 되어 있는지를 검토하였다.

The purpose of this study is to investigate and establish criteria on selecting a research method among qualitative research methods. Recently, many researchers in lifelong education have adopted qualitative methods in order to explore diverse dimensions of learning in everyday life. However, they tend to ignore systemized methodological issues. To satisfy the purpose, this study critically reviewed other discussions about criteria on methodological categories. After that, this study argues that the purpose of study including substantive concerns and epistemic concerns should the criteria on selecting a research method. Also, this study investigate what are substantive and epistemic concerns in phenomenology, ethnography, case study, grounded theory, and life history.
