교육개혁을 위한 홀리스틱 교육의 모색

Holistic Education for Educational Reformation

세계교육개혁운동은 4가지 길을 걷고 있다. 제1의 길은 초기 복지국가의 정부의 강력한 지원에 기초하고 있다. 제2의 길은 레이건과 대처로 대표되는 보수당의 관료주의와 시장주의 중심의 교육개혁 방식이다. 제3의 길은 좌파의 경직성과 우파의 불평등을 동시에 해결하고자 하는 Blair의 교육개혁 방식이다. 제4의 길은 신자유주의 극복하고 현장 학교 중심으로 교사의 전문적 자율성을 존중하는 핀란드의 교육개혁 방식이다. 지금이 사회적ㆍ교육적 개혁을 할 수 있는 제4의 길로 나아갈 수 있는 가정 적합한 시기이다. 전문적이고 민주적인 제4의 길은 교사의 전문성, 상호 의존, 지역사회 참여, 교사와 학생의 권한부여, 집단적 용기, 전문적 네트워킹, 정성을 기울인 학습과 가르침, 지성적 책임을 중시한다. 21세기를 향한 제4의 길은 교육자에게 개방적일 뿐만 아니라, 공유된 목적을 가지고 그들에 의해 만들어지는 것이다. 학교체제는 한 번에 당락을 결정하는 고부담 테스트 중심에서 벗어나 교육의 변화를 위한 혁신, 창의성, 그리고 학부모와 지역사회의 참여를 고무시킨다. 이런 생각은 오늘날 시의적절한 대안으로 제시되고 있다. 그러기에 우리는 제4의 세계교육개혁 방식으로 보이는 홀리스틱 교육으로 나아가야 한다. 통전성, 전인교육, 삶의 경험, 관계성, 선택의 자유, 참여민주주의, 우주적 자아, 생태체계, 영혼, 궁극성, 지구적 시민성에 중심 가치를 두는 낭만주의, 영성주의, 페미니즘, 생태주의, 다문화주의 등의 철학에 기반을 둔 홀리스틱 교육은 바로 제4의 길에 적합한 방식이다. 이제 한국 교육개혁의 근본적 해결을 위해서는 홀리스틱 교육에 기반해야 한다.

World educational reformative movement is going forward the fourth way. The First way is based on educational reformation of the early welfare state, supported by strong public engagement;. The Second way is based on bureaucratic and market-driven educational reformation of conservative party. The Third Way is based on recovering the rigidity of the Left and the inequality of the Right in educational reformation. In some places, the Third Way politics have barely begun. The fourth way goes beyond the neo-liberal education reformation and is to come up with Finlandish educational reformation which respects professional autonomy of teachers. It is high time for a new Fourth Way of the new social and educational reform. The Fourth Way for educational change integrates teacher professionalism, interdependence, community engagement, empowerment, collective courage, inclusiveness, public involvement, students as partners in change, mindful learning and teaching. and intellectual accountability. This Way challenges our current thinking about the dominant educational change driven by the neo-liberal education reformation. School systems for the 21st century must move away from a culture of high-stakes testing, encourage innovation and creativity, and engage parents and communities in educational change and are timely and relevant for educational leaders today. Thus, the holistic education rooted in romanticism, spiritualism, feminism, ecology, multiculturalism such as wholeness, whole education, life experience, relationship, freedom of choice, participatory democracy, cosmic self, eco-system, ultimacy, global citizenship, is very suitable for being directed towards the fourth way. Now, the education reformation in Korea with the Second Way should depend on turning toward the holistic education to radical solution.
