A Study on Aurora Battery's Possibility for Identifying Gifted Students

입학사정관제도의 도입과 같이 지적 잠재력이나 성장가능성을 중요시하는 교육 패러다임은 지능 이론의 새로운 방향과 맥락을 같이 한다. 전통적 지능 측정의 한계로 최근 여러 연구에서는 학교 교육 없이 각자의 분야에서 탁월한 업적을 보인 사람들의 성공요인을 탐색하고 측정하고자 하는 시도들이 나타나고 있다. 따라서 본 연구는 성공지능이론과 성공지능을 기반으로 하여 수행되어져 왔던 이전의 연구들을 살펴보고, 다양한 인간의 능력과 잠재성을 판별하기 위해 전통적 지능 측정방법의 대안 모델로 개발 중인 Aurora Battery의 구성요소를 설명하여 영재판별도구로서의 가능성을 탐색하였다. 기존의 전통적 지능검사와 다른 Aurora Battery의 영재판별도구로서의 가능성은 다음과 같다. 첫째, Aurora Battery는 학생의 강점과 약점이 반영된 전반적인 지능프로필을 제공해 준다. 둘째, 실제 정보를 처리하기 위해 작용하는 각 지능의 역할에 대해 평가할 수 있다. 셋째, Aurora Battery는 다양한 문화배경에서 유용하게 적용될 수 있는 매우 포괄적인 평가방법이다. 넷째, 영역과 유형간의 능력들을 평가하기 위한 분명한 지침을 제공하여 영재판별 시 교육현장에서 융통성 있게 사용 할 수 있다. 그러나 Aurora Battery는 현재 개발 중인 판별도구로 정확한 타당도와 신뢰도 측정이 이루어지지 않았다는 제한점을 가진다.

Educational paradigms, which value intelligent potential and possibility of growth like the admission officer system, are in line with the new directions of the theory of intelligence. Because of the limits of traditional intelligence-centered measures, there have been attempts in many recent studies to explore and assess the key elements of successful people who made excellent achievements in their own fields without receiving school education. Thus, this study identified various human abilities and potential, analyzed “Aurora Battery” which is being developed as an alternative model for conventional intelligence measures and examined its possibility as a method to measure gifted students. The characteristics that make “Aurora Battery” different from traditional IQ tests are as follows. First, “Aurora Battery” provides a general intelligence profile reflective of students' strengths and weaknesses. Second, it helps carry out research and evaluation of individual ability's role in achieving high performance and surviving fierce competition. Third, it offers ways to execute sophisticated skills necessary for fields of education and specialized areas. Fourth, it is a very comprehensive evaluation method which is useful and applicable in different cultures. However, “Aurora Battery” has not yet completed and the evaluation method has limitation, since accurate assessment has not been conducted for validity and reliability.
