Effects of mothers' emotional expressiveness and preschoolers' language ability on their emotional intelligence

The purpose of this study was to determine how mothers' emotional expressiveness and three-year-old children's language ability affect their emotional intelligence. For this purpose the REVT, a standardized language test, was carried out in 117 three-year-old children at five kindergartens and child care centers in Chungbuk province, and surveys were conducted in their mothers and head teachers. The data were analyzed by using SPSS 12.0 to perform descriptive analyses and multiple regression analysis. The results showed that the more positive expressions mothers made, the lower self emotional regulation their children made. Also, the level of expressive vocabulary children generated affected children's ability to recognize the emotion of themselves and others and regulate others' emotion in a positive way.
