Planning Characteristic Analysis of Movable Recreational Vehicles for Multi-purpose Application

The purpose of this study was to analyze the planning characteristics and multi-purpose application of movable recreational vehicles (RVs). A document research method and case studies were used to analyze and classified the spatial characteristics and types of 23 RV released in the nation in the early of 2013. The types of recreational vehicles for temporary dwelling were classified into three categories: (1)'camping-car type' by integration into one space of recreational vehicles, making it capable of instant mobility, easy parking and cooking, suitable for camping and for temporarily shelter, (2)'trailer type' with a big travel trailer at the back of recreational vehicles, by containing rechargeable system for social and traveling exhibition, (3)'roof-top tent type' by integration of lightweight roof-top tent and recreational vehicles, easy to carry and move for temporary office. The characteristics of recreational vehicles were as followings: The first was 'formal aspect' which was focused on the ease of deformation, lightweight of materials, simplicity of shape. And the second was 'functional aspect' which was focused on the expandability of space, the flexibility of interior space and ease of equipments. This study shows that the combination of two types of the characteristics will be more ideal in temporary dwelling by recreational vehicles rather than relying on just one type.
