이냐시오 영성의 교육학

The Pedagogy of Ignatian Spirituality

본 논문은 이냐시오의 영성이 어떻게 교육에 영향을 미치고 있으며 그 현대적 의미는 무엇인가를 고찰한다. 이를 목적으로 우선 이냐시오의 영적 체험을 고찰하였으며, 그 영적 체험이 예수회를 통해서 구체적으로 어떻게 실현되었고 어떠한 교육적인 효과를 갖게 되었는지를 고찰하였다. 그 고찰의 결과는 다음과 같다. 이냐시오와 초기 동료들은 예수회를 창설할 당시 교육기관을 설립하려는 의도를 갖지 않았었다. 그렇지만 교육이 개인과 이웃 인간의 구원을 위해서, 즉 세상의 구원을 위해서 효과적인 것으로 판단되었기에 그들은 교육기관을 설립하게 되었다. 여기서 이냐시오와 초기 동료들은 학문을 위한 학문을 추구한 것이 아니라, 사목적인 관점에서 교육과 학문을 추구한 것이 드러난다. 구체적으로 이냐시오와 초기 동료들은 파리 대학의 교육방식(modus parisiensis)을 예수회적으로 수용하였다고 할 수 있다. 이냐시오는 교회의 전통과 가르침을 중시하면서도 시대의 변화에 적극적으로 반응한 인물이었다. 또한 그는 인문주의에 개방되어 있었다. 그는 좋은 교육 즉 학습된 신심(docta pietas)을 위해서 중세의 가르침을 새롭게 계승하고자 하였으며 인문주의를 적극적이자 비판적으로 수용하였다. 이냐시오 영성은 교육이 시대적 맥락성과 초월적 자주성을 동시에 갖도록 하는 데에 기여한다고 할 수 있다.

The aim of this paper is to search how the spirituality of Ignatius of Loyola has effects on pedagogy and what his spirituality and those effects mean in contemporary times. For that purpose, firstly the spiritual experiences of Ignatius are considered. Secondly, how his spiritual experiences were carried out in the concrete situation of the founding the Society of Jesus, are historically investigated. The results of the study are follows: Ignatius and his colleagues at the time of the establishment of the Society of Jesus did not have an intention to have educational institutions; but they eventually came to realize that education is an effective means for the salvation of souls and world. They thus decided to run educational institutes. The first Jesuits did not pursue study as a goal in itself. They rather pursed it in this pastoral dimension. Ignatius and the early companions accepted modus parisiensis in their way of thinking and behavior. Ignatius underlined the tradition and the teaching of the Church; but at the same time, he actively responded to the changing times and was open to Humanism. The purpose of Ignatian pedagogy is docta pietas. For this he accepted not only the teaching of the Middle Ages, but also Humanism, critically, but actively. The spirituality of Ignatius contributed to education the idea that it has both independence from and contextuality in the particular time in which it is pursued.
