Copyright Infringement of Web storage Service Providers

Web storage service is an online service in which an online service provider provides customers with hard disk through the Internet. Customers can save their information or files at their hard disk given by the service provider in proportion to their fee. Customers can access to and work with the information wherever and whenever. They can also enable their friends to access to their information and download it. In this regard, the web storage service secures safety of customers' files, but it also can be used as a convenient tool to trade illegal files. Copyright infringement through the web storage service may occur extremely wide and fast, and thus, its harms are almost irrevocable. Considering the positive character of the web storage service, the web storage service industry should be fostered. However, without settling down the copyright issues involved in the service, the industry cannot develop persistently. Customers of the web storage service infringe copyrights by copying and transmitting without any consent of copyrighters. Even though the web storage service providers had the liability to prevent copyright violation, but they did not prohibit copyright infringements of their customers. In order to foster the web storage industry, the following measures are needed: ① Service providers must prohibit transmitting illegal files by deleting immediately any illegal files stored at their hard disk; ② Contents providers should provide files in reasonable price; ③ The web storage service industry should change from a report system to a license system.
