A Study on Approval Requirements for the gTLD Dispute Resolution Provider by ICANN

The Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy (UDRP) is followed by all registrars in the .com, .net, .org, .biz, .info, .name top-level domain(TLD). The UDRP is incor- porated into the Registration Agreement between the registrar and the registrant. The UDRP is related to the gTLD domain name dispute resolution in case the third party submits its complaints to the dispute resolution provider. Only the dis- pute resolution provider approved by ICANN may resolve the domain name disputes under the UDRP. ICANN requires an applicant for the dispute resolution provider to contain many factors such as the capabilities and background in providing ADR services and a list of the names and qualifications of the panelists. This paper deals with how the Internet Address Dispute Resolution Committee(IDRC) can be approved as the dispute resolution provider by ICANN, and suggests that it take some measures to meet the requirements.
