인터비주얼(Intervisual) 과정을 적용한 탐구적 미술비평 지도 방안

A Study on Inquiry Education in Art Criticism Using Intervisual Process

인터비주얼 과정 (Intervisual Process) 은 카렌 키퍼보이드(Karem Keifer-Boyd)와 메이트랜드 골슨 (Maitland Golson) 이 『Engaging Visual Culture』에서 제안한 모델로, 시각문화 자체와 역사적, 정치적, 사회적 맥락 사이의 상호작용 및 감상자가 보는 관점, 제작자의 의도 사이의 상호적이거나 때로는 상충되는 요소를 아울러 포함한다. 기존의 미술 비평 수업이 작품과 작가 위주의 검토에 머물렀다면 인터비주얼 과정을 활용한 탐구적 미술 비평은 감상자 중심의 비평을 강조하며 다양한 비평의 관점을 제시할 수 있다는 차이점이 있다. 학습자들은 작품, 제작자, 감상자 측면의 탐구를 통하여 작품과 작가 및 맥락에 관한 문제를 스스로 선택하여 해결할 뿐 아니라, 감상자 자신에 대한 탐구까지 이루어짐으로써 자신과 자신의 삶에 대하여 더 잘 이해할 수 있게 된다. 본 연구는 인터비주얼 과정의 각 요소들(작품, 작가, 감상자, 그리고 이것들에 관여하는 맥락)을 탐구의 과정으로 해결하는 미술 비명 지도의 방법을 모색하고 그 효과를 밝히려는 시도이다. 이를 위하여 단계적 미술 비평과 탐구적 미술비평 수업 및 인터비주얼 과정과 각 요소에 관한 이론적 배경을 바탕으로 탐구적 미술비평 수엽의 과정 안에 인터비주얼 과정을 활용한 비명 수업을 고안하여 초등학교 5학년 한 반에 직접 적용하였다.

Intervisual Process, suggested by Karen Keifer-Boyd and Jane Maitland Golson's 『Engaging Visual Culture』, include visual culture, historical, political, social and economical interactive context, the perspective of viewer and the intention of the artists. It also contains collisions and interactions of each element. While current art criticism education only covers the artworks and the makers, new pedagogy utilizing intervisual process emphasizes appreciator-centered criticism. In this method, students are encouraged to solve the problems about the artworks, the makers and the context for themselves, thus understand their own lives. This study tries to suggest instruction techniques in art criticism using elements of Intervisual Process(artworks, maker, viewer and contextual interaction among these elements) and to verify the effectiveness of the techniques. To come up with optimal teaching method in art criticism with intervisual process, the researcher has completed literature review of each stage of criticism and each element of the Intervisual Process as inquiry research. Based on this research, art criticism instruction process is suggested with intervisual process applied to criticism inquiry of G. Geahigan. This teaching method had been applied to a class of 5th grade.
