John was not written in the way of modern logic. It means that the structures and its literary styles in John cannot be properly detected, if we pay our attention simply to the modern way of reading/writing-skills when we read John, ignoring its own way of network of expressions different modern ones in our days. In John, there are so many repetitions or repetitive expressions. Repetitions are not the matter of producing literary repetition that simply emphasizes certain idea or expression twice or thrice, but rather they are the typical Johannine style of parallelisms or chiasms causing specific, relational meaning-network. This type of combined, repetitive phenomenon in John is so significant for the readers to understand the Johannine documents. John 5:19-30, one of Jesus' discourse parts in John 5, was designed with one overall chiastic structure, A(19-20) - B(21-25) - B´(26-29) - A´(30), with so many complex-parallel features in style. As we consider so webbed or interwoven parallel features throughout the text, it is so logical that we may presume that the text is also written with the parallel (or chiastic) type of overall structure reflecting its own parallel features that provides the reader calculable repetitive effect with emphasis on certain ideas and expressions. Johannine style such as chiastic design here needs to be studied in terms of how this type of meaning-network could lead the readers to repetitively be impressed, in the Johannine way, by ideas that the text tells about. Thus, we cannot deal with it only with our manner of reading in modern days.
