캐릭터의 심리학적 유형 분석

Psychology in Korean Films: focused on <King and the Crown> and <Masquerade>

본고에서는 <왕의 남자>와 <광해, 왕이 된 남자>를 연구 대상으로 삼아 이들 영화에 투영된 인물의 성격이 영화적 재미에 어떤 기여를 했는가에 대해 분석해보고자 한다. 이 두 편의 영화는 조선의 국왕을 다루되, 이들 국왕의 모습은 우리가 이상적인 제왕으로 간주해온 원형과는 전혀 다른 모습을 보여준다. 더욱이 천민 광대가 왕의 역할을 맡거나 왕과 사랑을 나눈다는 설정은 전래의 민담인 '왕자와 거지' 혹은 '바보와 현자' 등이 보여주는 지위 역전의 차원을 넘어선 대단히 전복적인 텍스트로서의 힘을 가지고 있다. 본고에서는 구스타프 융이 설정한 심리학적 유형, 즉 외향-내향, 직관-감각, 사고-감정 등의 유형을 이들 영화의 중심인물과 위성인물에 적용하였다. 이들 두 영화에서 왕은 이상적인 제왕으로서의 권위와 능력(외향, 직관, 사고, 판단)을 거의 체화하지 못한다. 대신 왕의 주변을 둘러싼 신하, 광대 등에 의해 그의 성격적 결함이 지적되고 이의 치유를 향해 나아간다. 물론 왕을 비롯한 극중 인물들은 자신의 성격적 결함에 의해 파멸되고, 관객들은 이들 '상처받은 화자'들의 모습을 접하면서 인물의 유형이 빚어내는 다양한 사건들을 목도하게 된다. 결말 부분에서는 인물에 대한 심리학적 접근이 영화 분석에 어떤 도움을 줄 수 있는지에 대한 시사점을 남기고자 했다. 영화에서 인물에 대한 탐구는 여전히 가장 흥미로운 주제 중의 하나이기 때문이다.

The theme of this paper is the relationship between the psychology and films. It mainly deals with the effect of characterization of the films on the spectators. The films <Man and the Crown(2005)> and <Masquerade(2012)> which has been great success in Korea became the main texts. They deals with the king's character. We think the ideal type of the king should be oriented to the following type: extroversion rather than introversion, thinking rather than feeling, intuition rather than sensation. But the psychological type reflected in this two films is far from the ideal types. They are false king, just the poor crown or the Masquerade crown. The reversal of social rankings is the most frequent materials in folk tales, for examples, 'Prince and Beggar' and 'The Fool and the Wise'. They are the same subversive text to that folk tales. Carl Gustav Jung has presented the scheme of psychological types: two functions(extroversion, introversion) and four attitude(thinking, feeling, intuition, sensation). In those films, The characters of the king is not sufficient for those of honourable king(extroversion, thinking, intuition). According to the Jung's term, 'The Self as the Whole' could not be achieved without the help of the satellite character. But the false, foolish, jealous kings on those films have refused their help or guidance only to fail. He continually has advised the modern peoples not to neglect the 'shadow'. It is an unconscious part of the personality that contains weakness and other aspects of personality that a person cannot admit to having. In other words, those infernal kings can be considered as the 'Wounded Storyteller'. In conclusion, we must emphasize the importance of the characterization in the films. This can make the films more active and useful.
