황지우 시의 신화비평적 연구

Analytic Understanding of the Poetry of Hwang, Ji-woo with Mythos Theory

본고는 1980년대 초반 해체주의적 시작 태도를 바탕으로 포스트모더니즘의 전위에서 현실을 바라보았던 황지우 시의 해석적 관점을 좀더 다양하게 확장하기 위한 시도이다. 연구 방법론은 신화비평으로 노스럽 프라이의 뮈토스 이론을 적용해 황지우 시를 원형적으로 밝혀 분석하는 것이다. 황지우의 1980년대 초반의 창작시들은 획일적으로 해체주의적 양식에 갇혀 있지 않고 심미적 서정을 극대화 한 작품에 이르기까지 다양한 유형의 구조나 주제를 가지고 있고, 인간내면의 총체적 경험을 반영하고 있다. 더욱이 그의 두 번째 시집은 <겨울-나무로부터 봄-나무에로>라는 표제시 제목부터 시어의 배열이 상징적, 대립적으로 설정되어 있으면서 어떤 하나의 의미로 고정되어 있지 않고 상승적, 역동적 이미지를 구축하고 있는데, 이 시집엔 황지우가 정치적으로 억압되어 있던 시대의 표징과 그 속에서 굴하지 않고 꿋꿋하게 대응하고자 했던 시인의 의지가 반영되어 있어 흥미를 더해 준다. 또한 초창기 그의 시들은 지속적으로 형식을 파괴하고 장편적인 서술형태를 유지하며, 다양한 알레고리를 동반한 스토리까지 지니고 있기에 프라이의 뮈토스 이론을 토대로 한 신화비평 연구의 훌륭한 텍스트가 될 수 있다. 황지우 시의 이미지 유형을 밝혀 줄 주된 뮈토스는 '광주', '꽃말', '나비', '행복'이다. 황지우는 이러한 뮈토스들을 통해 후안무치의 감옥과 같았던 1980년대 초반의 정치 현실을 미끄러지고 뒤틀리는 시적 화법으로 침투하며, 인간적인 본능과 욕망을 분출시키고 때로는 섬세한 서정의 주름살을 아름답게 수놓고 있다.

The focus of this paper is to expand the interpretive perspective of Hwang, Ji-woo's poetry, who saw the reality based on de-constructivism and post-modernism in 1980s. The method of study is to analyze his poems applying Northrop Frye's 'Mythos theory' into the poems. Hwang, Ji-woo's poems in the early 1980s not confined in the de-constructivism have varied structures and topics, which reflect human beings' general experiences. Furthermore, the word-order of the title, 『Winter from a tree and Spring to a tree』, in his second collection of poems, is set symbolically and oppositively. This makes ascending and dynamic imagery of the poem, which represents his resistive attitude to the reality of the past, when everything is politically oppressed. In addition, his early poems are proper texts for a study of myth criticism based on Mythos theory since they continuously destroy structures, maintain a long narration, and have stories with various allegories. Main mythos is 'Gwangju', 'The language of flowers', 'Butterfly', and 'Happiness', which all show types of his imagery. This mythos explodes human beings' instinct and desire in the restricted reality with employing his unique poetic speech. This also represents a calm spring sea with using his lyrical speech.
