This study aimed to develop corresponding strategies for small and medium sized enterprises through analysing the economic trends of Russia, the progress and necessity for a KoreaㆍRussia FTA, and trade between the two countries. For this purpose, this study depended on bibliographical research, referring to data from the KITA Institute for International Trade, and research results from the Trade Center of Korea Trade Investment Promotion Agency in Russia including data from the Korea Institute for International Economic Policy, the Knowledge Hub for Creative Solutions, the Korea Bank of Export and Import and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade. For trade indexes, data from the Korea International Trade Association (KITA), KOTRA, the Korea Bank of Export and Import and the Korean Statistics Information Service, a diversity of sites, statistical data and newspaper articles were used. As the position of Russia as the l 56th member nation in the WTO came into effect, it has been actively engaged in international economic cooperation through modernizing its economic system, securing transparency through stopping corruption, increasing investment through SOC, enlightening backwaters, and denationalizing. In the case when Russia is first in an area that attracts global attention in the future, we should understand it very clearly as an economic partner of Korea. We should conclude an FTA with Russia which has the potential for high growth through development of alternatives for coexistence and economic cooperation by building diverse networks in the economy and culture. Korean enterprises should develop corresponding strategies for advancement into Russia by making strategic partnerships with Russian enterprises, giving a focus on promising products for export to Russia, developing economic cooperation strategies, and establishing investment strategies to manufacturing business in Monotown, Russia, and strategies for advancement into key areas.
