고전소설의 소상강 활용양상

The aspect of a use of Sosang-river in the classical novels

본 논문은 소상강이 고전소설의 주요 작중공간으로 수용되고, 변모된 다양한 양상을 고찰한 것이다. 중국의 소상팔경도가 한국에 전래된 이후, 소상강 유역은 절경의 상징적 공간으로 인식되었다. 이러한 인식을 바탕으로 소상강은 작중인물의 주유공간으로 수용되었으며, 소상팔경에 대한 우울한 서정적 묘사를 이용하여 사로공간으로 변용되었다. 또한 소상강 유역과 관련된 역사전설을 바탕으로 이곳은 작중인물의 구원공간으로 수용되었으며, 작중인물의 억울한 처지를 부각시켜주기 위한 원령공간으로 변모되었다. 그리고 소상강 유역의 이상경적 이미지를 바탕으로, 이곳은 고전소설에서 탈속공간으로 수용되었으며, 여기에 풍수사상이 결합되어 길지공간으로 변용되었다. 이처럼 소상강은 고전소설에서 다양한 유형의 작중공간으로 활용되면서 작품구성에 기여하였다. 따라서 고전소설에 나타나는 소상강이라는 작중공간에 대한 논의는 보다 본격화될 필요가 있다.

This study examined the various aspects of Sosang-river accepted as a major space in a story and how it is transformed. Since chinese 'Sosang palkyung do' has been passed down in Korea, the area of Sosang-river is perceived as a space of magnificent view. Based on this perception, it is accepted as a traveling space of character and transformed as a path to death in a play using gloomy lyrical description of 'Sosang Palkyung.' Also based on historical legend about the area of Sosang-river, it is accepted as a space to help character get out of the crisis and transformed as a space of revengeful spirit to emphasis character's undeserved mind. Based on the ideal image of Sosang-river, it is accepted as a space to be free from conventionality and combined Feng-sui Thought to this, it is used as a space of suspicious earth. Likewise, Sosang-river is utilized as various types of spaces in a story contributing to a composition of work. Therefore it is essential to discuss a space, Sosang-river used in lots of classical novels.
