유치환 시의 숭고미 연구

본 논문은 유치환의 초기시를 숭고의 관점에서 접근하여 작품 속에 구현된 세계 인식 태도와 시학적 의미를 분석함으로써 한국 현대시의 숭고 미학에 대한 연구의 가능성을 열어놓고자 한다. 유치환 시세계의 본질이라 해도 과언이 아닌 생명에 대한 인식과 사유는 필연적으로 시적 정서의 문제와 연결되는 양상을 보이는데, 필자는 유치환 시의 미학적 특성을 '숭고'(the Sublime)의 관점에서 접근해 보고자 한다. 이를 통해 유치환 시에 나타난 숭고의 미학적 특성과 언술 방식에 대해 논의해 보려는 것이다. 유치환의 초기시에 나타난 숭고미는 허무의지와 자기 부정, 그리고 자학의 서정성에서 비롯되며 이것은 절명(絶命) 의식의 고양과도 근본적으로 맞물려 있다. 그의 절명(絶命) 의식은 죽음마저 불사하겠다는 무게를 가지고 있으며 무한한 시공성 속으로 자신의 존재의미를 투사시킴으로써 독자에게 숭고의 한 극점을 느끼게 하는 것으로 파악된다.

This thesis aims to look into the Sublime of aesthetics on the Yu Chi Hwan's poetry and its significance in the history of literature in 1930's. Yu Chi Hwan who has actively written poems since 1931 has continuoslly gotten good attentions and remarks from the critics. They estimated that his work accomplished higher state in poetic message. In these remarks from the contemporaries, this thesis was written for the purpose of looking into the basic paradigm of his poetic consciousness, which was revealed by researching into the aesthetic character of poetic mood mecanically accompanied with pose and trans-process of world perspective of the persona. This study is to deal with most to 『The book of life』(1947). He tried out new forms of poetry and wrote important works. He tried to invesgate the issue of life and death, an essential human predicament, by making 「The flag」. The serial poem in 1930's suggests a strong image and tone in its structure and thinking style. Thus, in this thesis, I shall illuminate and analyze the unconsciously presented prototype of the self image in the poems, so as to reveal the nihilism of self-torture meanings. I shall also examine the existential meanings that Yu Chi Hwan tries to obtain through his nihilistic poetic mood. He wrote some love story poems, but he emphasizes self-mortification. The third chapter reviews the poetic examination of objective out-side world beyond gap and isolation placed on the self and the world. This transition of poetic perception is closely related with the attitude of the persona which transmits a point of view from an abstractive and non-existential space to a concrete and common space. In later Yu Chi Hwan's work, he has attemped to freedom and redemtion in the consciousness of poem through nihilism and vital usages. The usage of the persona based by a pervaded inside consciousness purposes to encounter the life, the world, and the self which have arrived at what the speaker has thought of the essential in them by getting out of the non-existential absorbed in the common. By this perception of the world, the poet can acquire more intense and strong poetic consciousness. So many readers accept the sublime on his poetry.
