Internationalization of Domestic Politics and Politicization of International Politics: On the Synthesis of Inside-out and Outside-in Approaches in International Political Economy

국내정치와 국제정치의 상호작용을 어떻게 체계적으로 설명할 것인가라는 문제는 국제정치학의 핵심과제 중의 하나이다. 특히 냉전이 끝나고 세계화가 진행되면서 국내정치와 국제정치가 서로 영향을 주고받는 유형과 방식이 더욱 긴밀해지고 복잡해지면서 그에 대한 이론적 설명과 경험적 분석의 필요성은 더욱 절실해지고 있다. 본 연구자는 이러한 문제의식 속에서 국제관계에서 국가가 내리는 중요한 정치적ㆍ경제적 선택에 국내적 요인과 국제적 요인이 미치는 영향을 연구해 왔다. 본 논문은 그 연구 성과를 주제영역별로 나누어 간략히 소개하고 그 의의와 한계를 검토하는 것을 목적으로 한다.

How do we systematically understand interactions between politics within nations and politics among nations? This question has been at the center of scholarly inquiry in the study of international relations. Changes caused by the end of Cold War and globalization have made an answer to this question both more difficult and, at the same time, more urgent. In this paper, I review my research in this area, highlighting theoretical innovations and empirical findings that shed light on ways to better understand the nexus between politics within nations and politics among nations.
