급변하는 환경에 적응하기 위한 경영기법들이 많이 등장하여, 윤리경영, 정도경영, 환경경영, 역발상경영, 시나리오경영, 지식경영, 벤치마킹, 다운사이징, 리엔지니어링 등 계속적으로 등장하고 사라지며, 지금도 계속적으로 새로운 경영기법들이 등장하고 사라지고 있다. 이것은 경영이 정형적인 것이 아니라 유기체적으로 항상 변하는 것을 간접적으로 반영하는 것이라고 할 수 있다. 따라서 우리나라의 기업들이 정형화된, 처방된 기법들을 현장에서 적용한다고 할지라도 그 기업들이 처한 환경과 상황들이 제각각 다르기 때문에 일방적인 처방으로는 기업의 현재 상황을 개선하기에는 무리가 있을 수도 있다. 이러한 상황에서 각각의 기업들에게 적절하게 변형가능하며, 현재의 상황이 어떠하며, 현재의 상황에서 당면된 과제와, 앞으로의 진로를 탐색할 수 있는 모형의 필요성이 절실하다고 하여도 과언은 아니라고 생각한다. 다양한 기업들은 각각의 목표를 달성하기 위하여 독자적인 전략을 구축하여 환경에 적응하기 위한 여러 가지 경영기법을 적용하고 있다. 그러나 환경은 가변적으로 정형화되어 있지 않기 때문에 가능한 많은 기업들에 적용할 수 있는 보편타당한 자가진단 모형이 정립된다면 중소기업들을 위해서는 너무나도 다행한 일이라고 할 수 있겠다.
