Characteristics of Effective Teachers in L2 Acquisition

This study reviews state-of-the-art research on the characteristics of effective teachers in L2 acquisition and proposes a model for second language teacher education. The purpose of this study will be stated in section I. In section II, the characteristics of effective teachers in the domain of general education will be described, followed by the characteristics of effective teachers in L2 acquisition in section III. Then in section IV, a model for second language teacher education will be explored with the focus on three effective teacher characteristics: subject matter knowledge, pedagogical knowledge, and socio-affective skills. Finally, conclusions of this study will be made in section V.
