Today countries around the globe have had intensive interest in education of talented persons, and with the enforcement of Education for the Gifted and Talented Students Education Act in 2000, new era of the gifted education started in Korea on the basis of legal grounds on the gifted education. Nevertheless, there is no ground for early childhood education for the gifted and talented students in the same Act, and early childhood education for the gifted and talented students has been one of the most marginalized areas in the gifted and talented education. Finding younger children with excellent abilities at earlier stages and providing appropriate educational services to develop their abilities to the full are prerequisites for maximization of gifted and talented education and considered important than anything. There have been many cases that gifts and talents get obsolete or dead away how extraordinary gifts and talents a child has, unless appropriate educational services are provided at the right time. Therefore, The purpose of this study was to examine recent theories regarding the education for young gifted children, to take a look at its problems based on the examples of the current education for young gifted children abroad and in Korea and to suggest new directions in education for young gifted children in various aspects so as to figure out them.
