이태준 서정소설의 특질 연구

A Study on the characteristics of Lee Tae-june's Early Lyrical Short Story

이 논문은 1930년대 이태준 초기소설을 서정소설의 관점에서 그 특질을 이해함으로써 이태준 소설의 특성을 심층적으로 밝혀보고자 하였다. 이태준 소설에 대해서는 서정적 특성, 서정성과 관련하여 많은 연구가 있어왔다. 이 논문은 이러한 기존의 연구가 서정성이나 서정적 특성에 한정지어지고 있음을 고려하여 서 '정'과 관련한 특성이 아니라 그것이 작품 전체를 관통하여 특별한 효과를 산출하는 '서정소설'적 성격과 관련하여 연구를 진행했다. 이태준 소설에는 지식인과 하층민들의 다양한 좌절 양상이 드러난다. 하지만 그는 좌절 자체에 의미를 부여하기보다는 인물들을 따뜻하고 관대하게 바라보는 관찰자(화자)의 시선을 활용하여 인물들의 좌절경험이 야기한 슬픔에 주목하고 있다. 또한 이태준은 '주관의 객관화'를 활용하는 장면의 압축적 제시로, 인물에 대한 화자의 연민과 비애의 정서를 명료하게 드러내었다. 이태준은 그의 서정소설에서 세계와 화합이 어려운 인물의 시선을 통해 화해 불가능한 현실을 포착하고 있으며 그것을 이미지화하기 위해 활용하는, 기억에 의존하는 순간의 정지-장면 제시를 통해 시대적 비극성을 발현시키고 있다. 위와 같은 이태준 서정소설의 특질을 살펴봄으로써, 그동안 이태준 소설 속 인물이나 세계관이 안고 있었던 현실외면이라는 비판의 지점이 서정소설이라는 의미에서는 또 다른 해석을 내포할 수 있다는 점을 확인할 수 있었다. 즉 현실적 감각에 무지한 인물들이나 적극적이지 않은 화자의 모습은 현실의 외면이 아니라 그 시대를 읽어내는 또 다른 표현 방식으로 이해될 수 있는 것이다.

This paper examines the nature of Lee Tae-june's Early Lyrical Short Stories by understanding the characteristics in the 1930's. There have been numerous researches on lyric peculiarities and lyricism of Lee Tae-june's Early short stories. This paper focuses on examining the features of lyrical Short Stories producing special effects, including all the elements of the previous researches. Ordinary people in Lee Tae-june's Early short stories reveal various patterns of setbacks. However, Lee Tae-june depicts the sadness caused by depression or failure with sensual images. Lee Tae-june employs warm and generous observer perspective toward characters rather than emphasizing the frustration itself. One of forms Lee Tae-june has chosen, compressed presentation of a scene using 'objectification of subjectivity', shows the effectiveness vividly. Through this, a narrator distinctly exhibits compassion and sorrow toward a character. In his lyrical works, Lee Tae-june captures the reality, which is impossible to reconcile, through the figures' perspective who are difficult to harmonize with the world. To picture it, Lee Tae-june develops tragedy by presenting the instantly stationary scenes which are dependent on memory. By examining the characteristics of his lyrical short stories, Lee Tae-june work is identified to be able to have a sense as a lyrical short story, even though figures and world view were at the point of criticism in the meantime. Therefore, ordinary and ignorant figures or inactive narrators can all be understood as a way of expressing the time in different manners.
