The Korean language in China has its own distinctive linguistic characteristics which are different from South and North Korean. "Yanbian Art and Literature", a local magazine in Yanbian, was published during the 1950s. It was a meaningful period because it was a time when Chinese people took on the historic tasks of achieving socialist industrialization and socialist transformation in agriculture, manufacture, and privately owned industrial and commercial enterprises. And it was also a peculiar period for the Chinese to advance according to the general line of the Transition Period. During this time, people had freedom to show their real life in literary works without much limitation, and there were many more different kinds of literary styles of work, Also the literary language tended to be more vivid, short and simple. The linguistic characteristics at that time were distinctive in the following aspects: Firstly, punctuation, spacing and spelling were not used the same as today, since there was no standard of written Korean at that time. Secondly, there were some typical words and expressions which reflected the cultural background of that period. Thirdly, there were many different kinds of grammatical features which showed diversity of Korean language.
