Community Development Through Lifelong Learning: The Case of Jecheon

The purpose of this study is to investigate the lifelong learning city project of Jecheon, and to suggest some intriguing issues and challenges. In order to do this, related documents were reviewed, Jecheon citizens were surveyed, and interview were conducted with lifelong education professionals. Findings indicate that Jecheon's systematic approach to structural sustaining lifelong learning cities has been successful. Furthermore, the perceptions of citizens on Jecheon's efforts have been largely positive. However, several issues have been identified. First, a variety of lifelong education programs should be developed and distributed, Second, information channels by which people can access useful information about learning opportunities should be developed. Third, the lifelong learning center should be established not only to disseminate lifelong education information but also to network lifelong education institutions in Jecheon.
